Monkey Forest
Villes impériales, villages, paysages et savoir-faire à découvrir autour de Fès.
In Morocco, the building wood is cedar; most of the riads in the medina of Fes have been restored with this dark-colored wood, close to teak but with characteristics closer to oak. Around Ifrane, a forest covering several hectares hides many century-old cedars, accessible via small roads.
The Gouraud cedar
This cedar bears the name of a French general, a senior military officer in the French army in the 1920s and 1930s. He marked the history of French colonization through several military exploits in various African countries. This century-old cedar, now dead, has lost its leaves and stands at the center of the cedar forest’s parking area.
The Barbary macaques
They should be approached with caution, as some have been mistreated by visitors or locals, and their reactions can be aggressive. It remains a special moment to see all these monkeys roaming freely and approaching visitors for a piece of chocolate.
