Customs
Les repères pratiques pour organiser sereinement votre séjour à Fès et votre voyage au Maroc.
When you go on a stay outside the European Union, and particularly on a trip to Fes, you will certainly want to bring back some souvenirs with you to France. So that your stay at a riad in Marrakech or at Riad Jamai remains a good memory, you must comply with French Customs regulations concerning the items and goods you will transport to France.
Mandatory declaration of goods to French Customs
You can import goods upon returning from your trip to Fes within a limit of 430 euros per person if you travel by plane or boat, or within a limit of 300 euros per person if you travel by any other means of transport. This limit is reduced to 150 euros per person for travelers under 15 years old, regardless of the means of transport used for your vacation in Morocco in Fes at Riad Jamai.
If the goods you purchased during your stay at a riad in Marrakech exceed these limits, you will need to declare them to French Customs. Indeed, you will have to pay value added tax (VAT) and customs duties.
Customs and tax exemptions: French Customs regulations
Upon your return to France, after your vacation in Morocco in Fes at Riad Jamai, the quantities of certain so-called « sensitive » goods that you bring back will be checked at Customs.
Upon return from a country outside the European Union, you will be allowed to bring back to France:
- 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 50 cigars or 250 grams of smoking tobacco
- 1 liter of alcohol over 22° or 2 liters of alcohol under 22°
- 4 liters of wine
- 16 liters of beer
In all cases, after your vacation in Morocco in Fes, be honest with French Customs services and spontaneously declare all the items and goods you brought back with you. If you fail to declare certain products, you risk having them confiscated as well as facing a customs fine.
