Boujloud Gate
9 500 ruelles, un musée à ciel ouvert classé au patrimoine mondial de l'Unesco.
Boujloud Square in Fez is an important place for the life of the city of Fes medina, it is a large square surrounded by the city walls and accessible from the blue gate when coming from the medina. Boujloud was lively a few years ago like Jemaa El Fna square in Marrakech, with snake charmers, street performances and shows to entertain visitors.
The blue gate, Fez’s postcard image
The blue gate is a photo you have already seen while preparing your trip to Fez, it is a magnificent gate located just at the exit of the medina and before the large Boujloud square. The gate was restored in 2013 to preserve this heritage intact for new visitors to Fez. It is a gate with an Arabic shape featuring sculpted zellige, thousands of cut mosaic tiles forming a range of blues, the blue of Fez.
Boujloud gate, famous entrance to the medina
Boujloud Square is the great square of the city of Fez; during lively evenings such as the Fez Sacred Music Festival (add link), the square dons its garments of light with sumptuous colors and lights. This square, once animated by a horde of artists of all kinds, has been left behind for Marrakech, where tourism has developed rapidly. When passing through, you may find nothing more than a simple parking lot, but this in no way represents this square, which is also a meeting place for the people of Fez.
Boujloud, between Batha and Mellah
The Boujloud square and gate are located in the district of the same name; this tourist spot in Fez lies between the Mellah (Mellah link) and the Batha district. To reach Boujloud you can come from the medina, on foot, or by petit taxi as there is a taxi stand right next to the blue gate. The Riad Jamaï team does not recommend staying in this neighborhood, where solicitations are frequent; other neighborhoods are more peaceful and closer to local life.
