Getting Around Morocco
Les repères pratiques pour organiser sereinement votre séjour à Fès et votre voyage au Maroc.
Your trip to Morocco is fast approaching and now you need to book your means of transport for the various stops of your stay at Riad Jamai. This is an essential step to prepare your trip to Fez or to your riad in Marrakech.
Car rental in Fez: a good alternative
Renting a car seems to be the ideal solution for your stay at a riad in Marrakech. You will be completely autonomous in your travels and you can visit small villages around Fez. However, you should be careful, as driving in Morocco is quite dangerous.
For a car rental in Fez, nothing could be simpler. You can book your car in advance online. Otherwise, get in touch with the various rental companies you’ll find upon your arrival at the airport. Budget around 50 euros per day, plus insurance costing 5 to 10 euros per day. Be careful though, this insurance does not cover you if you leave paved roads and take dirt tracks.
Small or large taxi: which one to choose?
In Morocco, there are two types of taxis: small and large. Small taxis are designed for a maximum of 3 people and for trips within the city. Simply wave your hand to hail a taxi. Make sure the driver has a meter and that they turn it on when you get in. Many small taxis are available at train stations and airports. Bring some change to pay.
Large taxis are designed for a maximum of 6 people and are shared. This means the driver can take different groups at the same time. Before getting into a large taxi, you’ll need to negotiate the price, as they don’t have a meter.
Other means of transport available to you
Morocco also has a fairly well-developed bus and train network. Depending on your needs, you can find information on the websites of ONCF (National Railway Office) and CTM, the national bus company.
Finally, to get around the medina, your feet remain the simplest option since the streets are quite narrow. You’ll be closer to local life and will be able to discover the customs of the inhabitants. Also, from Riad Jamai, the medina is easily accessible on foot.
