A quiet moment

Library

Livres et fauteuils pour faire une pause dans l’atmosphère paisible de la maison.

The riad’s library is a quiet place with a very pleasant view over the pool and the patio. This spot is a secluded room only accessible via the staircase leading up to the saffron suite. Don’t expect great French or Moroccan literature here; this place simply allows you to sit in one of the armchairs provided and read your own books or the few books available. The team regularly calls it the reading room, an in-between space linking the life of the patio and the warmth of the terrace during the day. For enthusiasts, wifi coverage is available from tablets or laptops, letting you browse serenely while still enjoying a bit of the patio life.

The library of the riad fez Jamaï is a place to relax while still keeping the idyllic setting of the patio, with its beautiful zellige columns and pool. This discreet spot within the riad is also an opportunity to enjoy a peaceful cup of tea in an enclosed room where foot traffic is very limited.

The library is well worth lingering in, as it feels cozy and it’s rare in Fez riads to find such a space dedicated to reading books from around the world. That’s the case at Riad Jamaï, where some forgotten books have been kindly donated by our guests, while others are purchased to complete certain collections.

You’ll understand that it is difficult for Riad Jamaï to acquire literary works and offer them for free use, as it would indeed be financially risky for the hotel fes to leave valuable books available to tourists. The team’s approach is therefore to offer a reading space and provide everything needed for this room to be used with the goal of reading and letting yourself be carried away by the writer’s storytelling.

Speaking of libraries, you should know that the world’s oldest library is in Fez and reopened its doors during 2017 right within the medina. Its restoration required several years of work and was led by a specialized Moroccan architect.
