Départ
Depuis le Riad Jamaï à Fès

An excursion is possible to the south of the city of Fes from the Riad Jamaï. The Fes Boulemane region is rich in panoramas and history, which is why the Riad offers two types of excursions during a stay in Fes. Additionally, you’ll see that a tour is possible to the west of the imperial city, towards: Meknes, Volubilis, Moulay Idriss.

Here, the team invites you to discover the highlights of a day tour to the south of Fes, towards the Atlas. The flagship destination of this excursion is Ifrane with its rooftops reminiscent of Swiss or Savoyard (France) architecture.

Ifrane: an impressive architectural change less than an hour from Fes

The city of Ifrane is famous for its architecture, truly different from the buildings of this region of Morocco. The sloped roofs adorned with red tiles are closer to traditional Swiss alpine houses. The slope of these houses is necessary due to the climate here, only 1 hour from Fes, where snow is a regular visitor to the Ifrane region.

The road to Ifrane is scenic, with several viewpoints worth stopping for to take photos and complement the snapshots from your stay in the Fes medina, where the omnipresence of houses, dars, and riads contrasts with these mountainous expanses towards Ifrane.

Monkeys as residents of the cedar forest in northern Morocco

On this southern excursion day, several stops are planned including the cedar forest and the famous wild monkeys. Come along in a relaxed manner with some chocolates or pieces of bread for what is a unique attraction of this tour. Along the way, you’ll stop near the Gouraud cedar, a centuries-old tree, an emblem of the northern Moroccan forests.

Meeting the local population in Bahlil, a troglodyte town, for a sweet absinthe tea

Bahlil is a village perched on the mountains of the Middle Atlas, where activity is very limited. It’s interesting to visit for several reasons:

  • Get a sense of the local and rural life of this region
  • Discover a mode of housing: the troglodyte dwelling
  • Have a glass of absinthe tea, a variation of traditional mint tea
  • Appreciate the calm and lifestyle of the inhabitants of this town

In summary, the excursion to the south of Fes is a breath of fresh air, far from the concentrated life of the Fes medina. This tour is a great compromise for discovering the panoramas of the Middle Atlas and the local life of the region’s inhabitants. You will also benefit from the excellent knowledge of our partner and their multilingual verbal skills.
