In Fes, using taxis is common and allows you to travel from the new city to the old city of Fes. Two categories of taxis operate to transport the residents of Fes and its guests staying for one night or more. The large taxis, white or light grey-white in colour, are intended for travel outside Fes. They are generally requested for transfers between the airport and the medina, as well as for all tourist excursions in the region such as Volubilis, Meknes, Ifrane, Azrou, and the panoramic views the region has to offer.
Small taxis, on the other hand, are intended for short trips within the city, whether in Fes el Bali or Fes el Jdid. Small taxis are limited to a maximum of 3 people and are equipped with a meter for each ride.

Regular station-to-station journeys
Small taxis operate all day long, they are red in colour and come in different vehicle makes. Generally, red taxis are equipped with a roof rack for visitors’ luggage. Stations are marked throughout the city and some red taxis run station-to-station trips all day, which creates situations where tourists and residents of Fes share the same vehicle. The taxi only departs for its destination from one of the stations once the vehicle is completely full, meaning 3 passengers. Taxi rides are considered financially reasonable. Pricing is a flat rate per occupant among the 3, and the meter is not used.
On-demand journeys Fes Jdid/Fes El Bali
The other trips made by small red taxis are on-demand journeys for customers travelling within the city of Fes, whether through one of the 12 gates of the Fes medina or along one of the streets of the new city. These trips run on the meter, and a night rate applies as a surcharge for all taxi rides. This type of ride is for 1 to 3 people and is payable at the end of the trip.
Journeys outside the medina, Fes region
Large taxis, as mentioned previously, handle long-distance trips and rides outside the city of Fes. These taxis must be booked in advance by phone or directly.
