Tourism professionals want to develop business tourism in Fes with major hosting infrastructure, such as the convention centre, Fes airport, an efficient and available taxi network, and several large hotels in the new city. In order to develop this business tourism, two dimensions are necessary.

Two dimensions for tourism in Fes

The first is the organisation of professional events with national or international reach. This is the case for conferences of liberal professions in health, and it’s also a good example for certain gatherings centred on culture and sharing. The Fes airport and its new terminal have recently started welcoming flights from Paris, Lyon, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Nantes, London and other major cities across European territory.

In total, 14 weekly rotations will bridge these European conurbations and Fes-Saïss, representing 126,000 passengers per year, which will bring the potential up to one million passengers.

To develop and build on the success of the Marrakech destination, the municipality of Fes has negotiated the opening of a flight route between these two imperial cities to make it easier to discover two cities with different assets but an identical culture.

Fes in the making, with sights set on 2021

Fes’s offering is evolving and growing strongly, with new flight routes opening, hotels arriving near the medina, the creation of a convention centre, and the organisation of major professional events, Fes is taking on an important place within the kingdom.

In terms of tourism, Fes represents 5% of Morocco’s national offering, a figure that the national tourist board wants to increase with a marketing action plan and a 4-year cycle between 2017 and 2021. The brand that will be developed for the Fes Meknès region will incorporate the surrounding provinces of Ifrane, Taza, Boulemane, Sefrou, Moulay Yacoub, which offer definite points of attraction for tourism near the Middle Atlas.
