The city of Fes has its own airport which allows it to welcome travelers from all over the world and thus be able to offer direct flights between China and Fes, the United States and Fes, Australia and Fes. After long operating with a single terminal, the Fes airport now has a second terminal. This terminal, located next to Terminal 1, will double the number of passengers transiting through Fes over the coming years.
This terminal, with a modern design reminiscent of the Moroccan Mucharabieh style, was built following the decision of the Moroccan National Transport Office. Indeed, the Fes Meknes region has implemented a real tourism development policy with the increase of accommodations in the medinas of northern Morocco and in the new cities.
Fes opens up to Africa
One example is the policy put in place with the airports of African capitals wishing to open direct flights to Fes, with fares guaranteed to be studied to be affordable and allow a maximum number of travelers to make this trip to one of the imperial cities. Another example of what Terminal 2 will enable is that tourism stakeholders in Fes and its region will be able to set up domestic flights such as Marrakech-Fes and rely on the millions of travelers transiting through Marrakech to offer a few days in the spiritual and cultural capital of Morocco.
Fes Morocco, two inseparable words
The history of Morocco is very closely tied to that of Fes; over the centuries, Fes has carried a state of mind, a way of life, developing craftsmanship into an exceptional expertise. These assets, visible in the Fes medina, will find new visitors thanks to the opening of direct flights with the inauguration of Fes Terminal 2. Fes El Bali will develop in step with the flights arriving at Fes Saïss, and indirectly these Moroccan populations will be able to give international resonance to this thousand-year-old imperial city.
